SOUND OF THE UNDERGROUND: OVERTIME FESTIVAL

This summer, Overtime Festival returns to London. The event will welcome a synthesis of upcoming musicians to East End’s 93 Feet East dance venue. ROHY Music, the talent management and event production agency behind the concept shines a spotlight on the hustlers, boundary pushers, and industry disrupters in music.

“Overtime aims to provide a larger platform to showcase emerging musicians and talent across the UK,” they tell WNDRLST, “we envision a festival where young, emerging musicians share the stage with major headliners. The goal is to boost their confidence and drive their music careers forward.” Their Instagram hints at the cohort of artists that will take the stage, with a visual line-up, assigning artists to matching video game avatars. At Overtime, the ensemble of diverse artists, producers and DJs will finally be unlocked to the world.

Before, makeshift raves and impromptu sound systems would appear in car parks, warehouses and basements. Through this, people are introduced to the names of new dynamic talents determined to bring a fresh sound. The Overtime Festival hopes to continue London’s legacy of providing a platform to newcomers. Taking the stage are subversive artists in the underground scene, who ROHY management claims “are forging their own paths through relentless effort, often without the backing of labels or management.” A consistent theme is their grind, and the festival’s name: ‘Overtime’ hints at late hours in the recording studio; mixing tracks and writing songs. Many in the underground scene balance their passion and day job, a testament to their dedication to make it. ROHY management recognises the plethora of untapped talent in the industry, as they share, “some of these emerging artists are producing music that surpasses what’s currently found in the commercial or mainstream scene and we want to highlight that.”

The stage will see electrifying performances from many names in the UK underground scene from rock band LoFi Shrimp to eclectic duo KUDZANAI. Headlining the festival is multifaceted artist Tidez who seamlessly blends gospel, soul, rock, afrobeats and grime. Listeners have caught onto him as a versatile talent to watch. In his latest EP, ‘Tears In The Mirror’, Tidez spans from emotive and hard-hitting rap ballads to upbeat hits. He has rightfully become the newest addition to a roster of rising stars in the UK’s commercial scene. Overtime reflects the changing face of music. Last year, crowds at the festival bounced to headliner Len who has emerged at the forefront of alternative UK rap. Subdued aesthetics, electronic beats, and smooth, cocky vocals: he is the embodiment of a new rap era. His influence has only grown, releasing a streets-acclaimed album this year.

ROHY has ensured that Overtime festival will be an all-compassing event: besides the live performances, various activities can be enjoyed throughout the day, and free food will be available from 4 - 6 pm.

Track by track, these artists are reshaping the music landscape and through the support of a community their voices and talents will take centre stage.
